A beach session on West Wittering beach, West Sussex with a small group of children 7-10 years old. Children are given space to explore their environment and to direct their learning with their interests.
The children made many discoveries on this beach, a combination of natural items and some that didn't belong to our environment. They documented through creative language to record what they found, discussed together what they found and the meaning of these discoveries. Everyday objects welcomed imagination and mystery.
The children had many questions they thought aloud on this beach that naturally lead to further investigation on return to the atelier. Exploring the natural sciences through creative and imaginative languages.
The beach supported a natural tendency to record and categorise discoveries that created opportunity in refection to relaunch and extend learning through numeracy and literacy.
